The company Kährs is one of the prominent European producers of parquets and wooden floors. Since the very beginning in 1857 in Nybro, Sweden, the genuine wood and high quality has permanently been the headstone of the company AB Gustaf Kahr. At that time mainly products such as spinning wheels were manufactured, but from the beginning of the 20th century the production was focused on toys, furniture and later on also doors.
In 1935 the third generation of Gustaf Kähr acquired a patent no. 90223 for layered wooden boards and the issue of this patent became the starting point for the main patents for floors, which were issued to the company in 1941. Since this time the parquet floors have step by step become the main production load.
In 1993, after a succession of years of highly quality work, the company Kährs was certified according to ISO 9001 – the company Kährs became the first producer of wooden parquets in the world, which has been issued this appreciation.
In 1997 a considerable attention, which the company pays to the environmental protection, was rewarded by the certification according to ISO 14001 and the registration according to EMAS.
In 2001 the company Kährs was again the first, this time in implementation of the woodloc connection for multilayer parquets. This product is a result of revolutionary thinking in the field of parquet floors.
Nowadays the Kährs group has its own manufacture of floors and its own wood saw at five places in Sweden and at one place in Norway. In 10 countries Kährs has sales companies and offices and in approximately 30 countries sales representatives and importers. This group of companies has more than 2100 employees.
The company Kährs in Nybro had been owned for five generations by the family Kähr, until the year 1982, when it was sold. The current owner is the company Nybron Flooring International Corp., St. Margrethen, Switzerland.
